Dear Perthes Disease,
I am laying here after my 15th surgery and wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for the opportunities, thank you for the chance to meet new people, and the chance for me to figure out who I am, and the chance to realize the big plan God has for my life.
Perthes, the last 4 years of my life have been hell because of you, you have beat me down, bruised me, hurt me, you have broken me down to my core. However you failed to realize you picked the wrong guy, because of you, I have found the courage in Christ to fight back. He has given me the strength to get back up and fight, He surrounded me with people that support me and He give me the power to get up for the 15th time. So again thank you, because you give me the opportunity to reach people in a way that I never would have been able to without Perthes, you gave handicapped kids the chance to play sports and meet professional athletes, you gave those who felt alone the chance to be apart of the team, so thank you because I wouldn’t have been able to reach them without you.
Perthes you don’t get to define me, limit me, or cripple me. My limp will never be my handicap, instead it is my trophy. Without great battles there are no great victories. I’ve earned my limp and will show it off for the world to see. I am a MightE1 and so thankful you have given me the chance to prove it.
“For the Mighty One has done great things for me” Luke 1:49
